The desire to buy is slowly increasing: Germans are showing willingness to buy again

The latest study on the consumer climate in Germany shows a slight increase in consumers' purchasing mood. Despite this improvement, the overall mood remains subdued. Income expectations have risen noticeably, while economic expectations and the propensity to buy are increasing moderately. The consumer climate has improved for the third time in a row and reached a two-year high of minus 24.2 points.

Consumers' high propensity to save is currently slowing consumption. A significant increase in the consumer climate is primarily due to increased income expectations. This is attributed to the wage and salary increases of consumers, who benefit from a declining inflation rate. This increases consumers' purchasing power, which leads to real income increases.

Despite the positive development in income prospects, consumer sentiment is still worse than the actual economic situation. Strong uncertainty due to national and international crises is shaping current consumer sentiment. This uncertainty means that there is largely no strong stimulus for domestic demand.
