The circular economy is increasingly recognized as a key lever for industrial change. Initiatives to promote sustainable use of resources are not only urgently needed, but also offer numerous benefits. In order to systematically advance the expansion of the circular economy, environmental associations have presented six key recommendations to the government. These recommendations aim to create the framework conditions necessary for successful implementation. These include, among others:

The recommendations come from well-known organizations, including Germanwatch, German Nature Conservation Ring, BUND, German Environmental Aid, NABU, WWF and Round Table Repair.
Sustainable use of resources
The concept of the circular economy, which also includes ecological thinking, includes important aspects such as resource reduction, extension of use and recycling. The circular economy is defined by the “ten R’s”: Refuse, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture, Repurpose, Recycle and Recover. These principles provide companies and governments with clear guidance on how to improve resource management.
Additionally, the global Circularity Gap Report 2023 from Deloitte and Circle Economy shows that the circular economy's share of the global economy is currently only 7.2 percent, down from 9.1 percent in 2018. Despite these sobering numbers, more and more companies, governments, investors and consumers are recognizing the potential of the circular economy. They can help reduce global material consumption by up to 30 percent, thereby achieving not only ecological but also economic benefits.
The implementation of the circular economy promises new revenue streams, increases in efficiency, cost savings as well as improved corporate reputation and compliance with legal regulations. These are weighty arguments that are important not only for sustainable development, but also for the long-term competitiveness of companies in a changing market.
