Short-time work: AUA and Vienna Airport top recipients of billions in aid
The most expensive instrument of corporate aid during the Corona period was short-time work, with this program accounting for almost 10 billion euros by the end of 2022. A recently published list of major recipients was obtained by ORF in court, showing that AUA and Vienna Airport were the two largest beneficiaries. The AUA received 261 million euros, while Vienna Airport received 107 million euros, according to ORF “Zeit im Bild” data. In addition to these two companies, other airlines also received short-time work benefits. Supporting these key companies was crucial to ensuring their economic stability amid the crisis.
