Truck accident on A7: driver seriously injured, highway closed for hours!

Yesterday evening, May 12, 2025, there was a serious accident on the A7 near Eichenzell in the Fulda district. A tractor-trailer with a Polish registration left the road, overturned and landed on an embankment about ten meters away, where it caught fire. The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when the truck suddenly veered off to the right. The exact cause of the accident is still unclear.

The driver of the truck was able to escape from the cab with the help of witnesses and only suffered minor injuries. He was taken to a hospital to be checked. The Eichenzell volunteer fire department and the Fulda professional fire department were alerted and were able to extinguish the fire in time before it spread to the surrounding hedges.

Consequences of the accident

The accident caused material damage of around 100,000 euros. The motorway had to be completely closed for around an hour towards the south near the Fulda motorway triangle, which led to significant traffic delays. One lane was later reopened, but the other remained closed until the recovery work was completed.

In addition to the fire brigade, the German Red Cross and the Petersberg motorway police were also on site. During the clean-up work, the lower water authority was notified because diesel had leaked from the damaged tractor-trailer.

The unbelievable images of the burning truck will certainly remain in the memory of the witnesses for a long time. How this serious accident could have occurred is still under investigation. However, the highway remains closed to one lane so that the rescue work can be carried out safely.

For residents and road users in the region, news of this incident released today is a sign of how quickly situations can change and the importance of preventative road safety measures.

Overall, it remains to be seen what further details will become known about the cause of the accident. The police have launched an investigation.
