Aviation is on the rise: Dresden is becoming the stage for future technologies!

Next Thursday the “Day of the German Aerospace Regions” will take place at Dresden Airport. This event, which is being organized for the 19th time, has the motto: “The future begins at the top – strengthening aviation, establishing space travel confidently, securing defense capability”. More than 300 representatives from politics, business, science and research are expected to discuss current developments and challenges in aerospace. The event is organized by the Competence Center for Aerospace Technology Saxony/Thuringia in collaboration with the Federal Association of the German Aerospace Industry.

Saxony and Thuringia have established themselves as important drivers of aerospace in recent years. The technology region of Saxony is internationally recognized and forms an important competence center for the industry. Around 7,000 employees work here in around 160 companies and research institutions, generating annual sales of around 1.4 billion euros. The basis of success is the know-how in areas such as mechanical engineering, micro- and nanoelectronics, materials development and production technology.

Specialist lectures and current challenges

Aerospace Day is accompanied by specialist lectures. Topics include, among other things, the growing importance of space travel, which is increasingly suffering from security concerns. Wolfgang Göhler, head of the competence center, points out the challenges posed by space debris. This poses a significant danger to spaceships and astronauts. Companies like Clearspace are already active and plan to collect space debris to improve safety in space.

The fields of activity in the aerospace industry are extensive. They include the equipping and conversion of aircraft, component production and testing of aircraft and space structures. There is also a focus on research and development projects as well as on air traffic and aircraft support. The LRT competence center has set itself the goal of driving development in Saxony and Thuringia and strengthening the networks in the industry.

Shared future of aerospace

A central concern of the competence center is to strengthen regional competencies in the aerospace industry. To this end, the LRT cooperates not only with German but also with international networks, such as the “European Aerospace Cluster Partnership” (EACP). Furthermore, the LRT is an active partner in projects aimed at improving energy efficiency in aircraft construction, as well as in initiatives to support the aviation supply industry. The aim is to develop stable and agile supply chains along the value chain.

The close cooperation between politics, companies and associations is a central success factor for the future of aerospace in the region. The Day of the German Aerospace Regions offers a platform to shed light on these aspects and actively address the challenges facing the industry.
