Majority calls for cuts in citizens' benefit

In the current survey, called Germany Trend, a clear majority of Germans are in favor of cuts to citizens' benefits. Of those surveyed, 56 percent were in favor of less government spending on citizens' benefits. This point is considered particularly relevant as it is the only savings measure supported by an absolute majority of respondents. A majority of 47 percent also support spending less money on the integration of refugees.

The survey also found that cuts in other social areas are less popular. Only one percent of those surveyed would cut funding for the care of old and sick people, while 78 percent support an increase. The figures look similar in the areas of pensions and pensions, support for families and children.

The FDP under party leader Christian Lindner is receiving support for its demand to maintain the debt brake, with 54 percent of those surveyed agreeing. The survey was carried out by Infratest Dimap on behalf of ARD-“Tagesthemen” and WELT and included 1,280 representatively selected respondents aged 18 and over.

It turns out that the AfD party could have a mobilization problem in the European elections, as the interest of its supporters in European issues is comparatively low. Despite AfD supporters' loyalty to their party, the results of the survey do not suggest that the AfD will make big gains in the European elections.
