Mini starts electric sports car revolution: John Cooper Works now!

Car maker Mini has announced the launch of two fully electric models in the John Cooper Works series. The new vehicles, the three-door John Cooper Works Electric model and the five-door John Cooper Works Aceman, bring Mini's sporting tradition into the electric age. These models will be available in Germany from January 2025.

Both variants are equipped with a powerful electric motor that delivers 190 kW (258 hp) and produces up to 350 Nm of torque. With an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds for the three-door Cooper and 6.4 seconds for the Aceman, they set standards in their category. Particularly noteworthy is the overdrive function, which gives the vehicles an additional boost of 20 kW for ten seconds, which further underlines the sportiness.

Prices and range

Prices start at 39,700 euros gross for the three-door model and 42,200 euros gross for the Aceman, plus transfer and handover costs as well as registration. The John Cooper Works Electric offers a range of up to 371 km, while the Aceman is at 355 km, as per WLTP norms. The vehicle's 54 kWh battery ensures an attractive range and charges with up to 11 kW of alternating current or 95 kW of direct current.

Design and technology

The John Cooper Works Electric is not only powerful but also stylishly designed. Features such as the John Cooper Works logo, reminiscent of a checkered flag, and the welcome projection from the exterior mirrors ensure a special welcome. The interior uses an OLED display with a diameter of 240 mm, which can be personalized using the Mini Experience Modes.

The vehicles are equipped with high-quality, high-performance tires that ensure excellent grip. The technology of these vehicles is based on a long racing tradition that began with John Cooper's sporty version of the classic Mini. A prototype of the fully electric John Cooper Works was presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2023 and achieved class victory in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.

With this new product line, Mini aims to offer customers both the excitement of driving and the benefits of electric mobility. The switch to fully electric models not only reflects the spirit of the times, but also strengthens Mini's position in the changing car market. The convertible variant, however, remains only available as a combustion engine.
