New platform wisawi”: Saxony brings business and science together!
On June 19, 2025, the new “wisawi” platform was officially presented in Saxony. This innovative project aims to network companies, research institutes and public institutions and promote the exchange of ideas. The initiators of the platform are Infrastructure Minister Regina Kraushaar, Economics Minister Dirk Panter and Thomas Horn, Managing Director of Wirtschaftsförder Sachsen GmbH. They emphasize the need to translate the ideas born in laboratories and conference rooms into practical applications.
The “wisawi” platform, whose name is derived from “vis-à-vis”, is intended to support networking at eye level and, in particular, to promote digital collaboration in rural areas. Dirk Panter emphasizes that it is essential to build a bridge between science and business in order to realize innovations and generate economic value. Thomas Horn emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive networking offering to facilitate the transfer of innovation.
Functions and financing
“wisawi” offers numerous functions and tools that are intended to help users initiate innovative projects and collaborate. Key features include:
- Entdeckung von Innovationen: Die Plattform fungiert als Schaufenster für Projekte aus sächsischen Forschungsreinrichtungen, Unternehmen und Kommunen.
- Anstoßen von Kooperationen: Nutzer können Partner und Unterstützende für innovative Projekte finden.
- Veranstaltungskalender: Eine Übersicht über alle Veranstaltungen im Innovationsnetzwerk wird bereitgestellt.
- Communities: Austausch erfolgt in offenen und geschlossenen Gruppen.
- Matching: Intelligente Vorschläge basierend auf Branchen, Interessen und Projekten unterstützen die Nutzer.
- Fördermittel: Zugang zu passenden Förderinstrumenten wird gewährt.
The pilot phase of the platform is being financed with around 500,000 euros by the Saxon State Ministries for Infrastructure and Economics and is scheduled to run until 2027. Other supporters include the Saxon Development Bank, the Digital Agency Saxony, simul+, the United Nations University-FLORES as well as the Fraunhofer Institute IWU and Innoloft GmbH.
Knowledge transfer and innovation promotion
Parallel to the introduction of “wisawi”, the State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labor, Energy and Climate Protection is publishing a comprehensive 180-page brochure. This publication, created by renowned institutions such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI and the ZEW - Leibniz Center for European Economic Research, aims to improve the processes and instruments of knowledge and technology transfer in Saxony. The analysis of the Saxon transfer system will reveal strengths, weaknesses and potential for promoting innovation and transfer.
The results of this analysis should serve as a basis for the development of more effective processes and more sustainable transfer structures. In addition, a dialogue process is aimed at through a series of workshops in order to develop a comprehensive transfer strategy for the Free State of Saxony. This strategy will help to further optimize cooperation between science and business and ultimately strengthen Saxony as a location for innovation.
