Austria's economy on the brink: FPÖ demands radical solutions!
Austria's economy is facing a serious challenge. After three years in a row of negative growth, the economic forecasts for the future are not very optimistic. In this context, the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) criticizes the current government for the lack of concrete measures to recover the economy. In particular, FPÖ economics spokeswoman Barbara Kolm expressed concern about the stagnating economic conditions and called for decisive stimulus for the economy.
The FPÖ has submitted several motions to the National Council to bring about positive changes. The most important proposals include an increase in the investment contribution to 15%, as well as 20% for investments up to 1.5 million euros, which should apply for the next two years. There are also calls for a reduction in electricity and natural gas taxes to the EU minimum, as well as an extension of the Electricity Price Compensation Act until 2030.
Reforms to strengthen the economy
Another central concern of the FPÖ is the re-codification of the trade regulations. This is intended to help simplify things and reduce bureaucratic hurdles. In addition, it is considered necessary to reduce the high non-wage labor costs, which currently amount to 27% of work output in Austria. The deletion of Chamber levy 2, which represents a financial burden of around 433 million euros for entrepreneurs in 2024, is also part of the FPÖ proposals.
The FPÖ emphasizes that these initiatives aim to reduce the economic burden and strengthen the Austrian economy. So far there has been no reaction from the government parties to the submitted applications. A slow rethink seems necessary as the challenges facing Austria as a business location continue to worsen.
European context
Overall, the current economic situation in Austria makes it clear that concrete measures are urgently needed to improve the bleak future prospects. While the FPÖ has presented concrete proposals, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to these submissions.
