Pattaya's mayor calls for cooperation for a greener future!

Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet attended the annual meeting of the Pattaya-Chonburi Business and Tourism Association (PCBTA) at the Sabai Sabana Hotel. This session discussed the progress and strategies for sustainable economic strengthening of Pattaya's tourism. Ngampichet made it clear that the city is placing the “Better Pattaya” initiative at the heart of its actions and is relying on public-private partnerships. This is intended to create a modern, vibrant and competitive city.

A central concern of the meeting was environmental responsibility. The mayor emphasized the importance of correct waste separation and called on citizens and companies to promote environmentally conscious behavior. The city's ongoing projects also focus on smart urban development in order to meet the challenges of urban growth. The forum provided space for PCBTA members to voice their concerns and suggestions for improving the city's infrastructure.

Sustainable urban development and cooperation

The session highlighted the PCBTA's role as an important interface between the private sector and city government. Mayor Ngampichet listened carefully to members and emphasized the importance of unity and dialogue for a greener and more hospitable city. Pattaya's mayors and business stakeholders are committed to working together to develop solutions to ensure a sustainable future for the city.

A relevant project in this context is the CDIA – Ecological Urban Development Initiative Asia, supported by GIZ. This project aims to improve living conditions in medium-sized Asian cities through sustainable urban development measures. The initiative supports cities to conduct feasibility studies and set priorities for urban infrastructure projects.

Funding and support

The support includes expertise in planning and financing infrastructure projects, with specific criteria for investments such as improving environmental conditions and combating poverty. The initiative reached 95 cities in 19 countries between 2007 and 2018, prioritizing 52 projects and securing a total investment of approximately $9.5 billion. There was also extensive training for local government officials and civil society.

The citizens of Pattaya can hope that the combination of political initiatives and economic cooperation will not only improve the city's image, but also improve the quality of life of its residents. Mayor Ngampichet is confident that through dialogue and commitment from all stakeholders, Pattaya is on the path to more sustainable urban development.
