Rendsburg's economy: worries about decline and shortage of skilled workers!

The economic situation in the Rendsburg economic area remains tense despite stable conditions. In the current spring survey by the Mittelholstein Business Association (UVM), in which around 70 companies with around 7,000 employees took part, the results showed a mood of reluctance and uncertainty. Bernhard Scheil, the deputy chairman of the UVM, said that the expected spring revival was not occurring. This leads to a variety of challenges for local businesses.

The main reasons for the depressed mood are rising prices, bureaucratic requirements, traffic problems and the shortage of skilled workers. In the survey, 29 percent of companies stated that they rated their current business situation as unsatisfactory or poor. Furthermore, 32 percent have noticed a deterioration compared to the previous year, while only 19 percent expect sales to increase in the coming months.

Investments and personnel planning

Three quarters of those surveyed plan not to increase their investments compared to the previous year or to keep them at the same level. Only 26 percent of companies intend to expand by the end of the year. There is a mixed situation on the labor market: 19 percent of companies want to create new jobs subject to social insurance contributions, while 16 percent are planning to cut jobs. What is particularly worrying is that 39 percent of companies were unable to fill all training positions last year, indicating a shortage of qualified applicants.

Scheil is calling on federal politicians to act quickly to create planning security. These include tax relief, lower energy costs and the reduction of bureaucratic hurdles. At the regional level, improvements in marketing, the expansion of transport infrastructure and the development of affordable housing are called for. In addition, internal security is highlighted as an important location factor.

Economic challenges and opportunities

Loud Rendsburg local Companies face various challenges, such as the shortage of skilled workers, long approval procedures and the lack of commercial space. Small and medium-sized companies in particular have to make an effort to find qualified employees, which could affect their competitiveness.

Nevertheless, there are also opportunities, particularly through digitalization and sustainable production methods. Companies are realizing economic benefits from investing in digital technologies and renewable energy. Key projects such as the new construction of the Rader High Bridge and the settlement of the battery manufacturer Northvolt could not only improve the local infrastructure, but also create new jobs.

Rendsburg, strategically located on the Kiel Canal, has the potential to develop further as a logistics hotspot. With 78 percent of companies employing fewer than 50 people, agriculture continues to play a significant role in the local economy.

In summary, it can be said that the economy in Rendsburg is facing major challenges, but at the same time is also taking advantage of significant opportunities to emerge stronger from the current situation. However, the course must be set quickly enough so as not to endanger development.
