Pensioners are left behind: demand for inflation compensation
High inflation and the associated increased cost of living represent a significant burden for pensioners. While many employees and civil servants have already received tax-free inflation compensation, pensioners have so far been left out. This group is particularly hard hit by price increases because an above-average proportion of their income has to be spent on living costs. The German Social Association (SoVD) has repeatedly pointed out that pensioners urgently need appropriate inflation compensation.
Michaela Engelmeier, the chairwoman of the SoVD, emphasizes the urgency of the issue and explains that the demand for inflation compensation for pensioners has attracted a lot of attention in recent months. The SoVD has been campaigning for this fair measure for over a year and reiterates that it is incomprehensible why pensioners have not been adequately supported so far. In order to increase political pressure, the SoVD has submitted a petition to the German Bundestag, which has already been approved.
In addition, the SoVD regional associations in Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Lower Saxony joined forces to collect over 20,000 signatures to denounce the unequal treatment of pensioners in relation to inflation compensation. The SoVD calls on people to take part in these actions and sign the corresponding signature lists. There is also the option to support a petition online, for which signatures are still being collected.
In a Germany-wide, coordinated campaign, the SoVD, together with its regional associations, is strongly committed to the demand for an appropriate inflation bonus for pensioners. These measures are intended to help alleviate the burden of the rising cost of living and achieve more equitable support for this population group.
