The motorway then had to be completely closed at the Bad Hersfeld junction for around an hour. Both lanes were affected by the blockage, which also led to traffic jams on the diversion routes. As a result, the highway maintenance department and the fire department arrived on site to clean the road and bring the situation under control. Parallel to the events on the A4, a traffic accident occurred on the BAB A49 at Ohmtaldreieck around 4 p.m. A 23-year-old driver from Altenkirchen probably lost control of his VW due to a burst tire. He was traveling south and wanted to turn onto the A5 towards Frankfurt. The vehicle left the road and collided with the guardrail after rolling about 100 meters. The driver and his three passengers suffered minor injuries. The Bad Hersfeld police motorway station secured the scene of the accident with a second patrol, while three ambulances rolled up to treat the injured.
