Staßfurt discovers the white gold”: insights into the modern salt works!
On May 21, 2025, the Staßfurt local council visited the impressive salt works of “Qemetica Salz”, which opened in 2021 on Butterwecker Weg. The local mayor Stephan Czuratis (CDU) and other members of the local council took part in the tour, which was led by operations manager Dr. Steffen Klensch and engineering manager Manuel Stanitz. The visitors received exciting insights into the history and working methods of the company as well as the salt production process.
At the beginning of the tour, participants were introduced to the background of Qemetica. As a leading chemical group on the European market, the company has been active in the chemical sector for years and has invested a total of 1.5 billion euros in development both in Poland and abroad over the last ten years. One of the most significant investments is the construction of the most modern salt works in Europe, which efficiently produces large quantities of salt.
Insights into the production process
The guided tour of the production facilities, which reach heights of over 30 meters, allowed visitors to experience the process of salt production up close. The intense heat in the production hall and the flow of salt passed through large pipes left a lasting impression. At various stations, participants were able to observe how the “white gold” is created, which is used in households and businesses alike.
Qemetica's modern logistics and storage technology ensures that production runs smoothly. Due to the high production efficiency, enormous amounts of salt are produced every hour. Staßfurt itself, known as the “Salt City”, is proud of this investment in salt production, which has both regional and national importance.
Sustainability in focus
As an alternative to the impressive production figures, Qemetica also pursues an ambitious ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) strategy. The company plans to be carbon neutral by 2040, which represents a significant shift in the industry. Qemetica's products are not only central to salt production, but are also considered essential in industry, construction and agriculture.
The combination of state-of-the-art technology and a clear focus on sustainability shows that Qemetica not only acts as an innovation leader, but also assumes responsibility towards the environment and society. The visit by the local council illustrates the close connection between the city and the company and gives rise to optimism for the future of salt production in Staßfurt.
