Electric shock at Böbingen train station: Two workers seriously injured!

On Thursday there was a serious incident at the train station in Böbingen an der Rems that affected two workers aged 20 and 26. They were carrying out canal work when they accidentally got too close to an overhead line with their surveying staff. A voltage flashover caused by this contact resulted in serious electric arc injuries to the two men. Both of them are now no longer in danger of death, but have not yet been able to be interviewed.

The rescue effort was extensive as the two workers were flown by helicopter to nearby hospitals. Böbingen train station was closed for around an hour during the operation, which led to several delays in train traffic. The Stuttgart – Aalen route was particularly affected, and there was even a complete failure.

Investigations are ongoing

The federal police have started investigations to clarify the incident. These take place in the area of platform 3. The police are also investigating grievous bodily harm, but there are currently no suspects and the clarification of responsibilities is still ongoing. It can be determined that the workers were not traveling on behalf of the railway.

The situation also raises questions about safety when working in close proximity to electrical systems. Whether preventive measures were not sufficient or whether there were omissions will now also be examined as part of the investigation.

The local authorities and the railway are trying to clarify the matter and will await the results of the investigation before taking further action. It remains to be hoped that the affected workers will soon make a full recovery and that the background to the accident can be fully examined.
