Thuringia's Infrastructure Minister Steffen Schütz launched a new loan program called “Eigenheim Plus” on August 13, 2025. This innovative program is designed to help Thuringians realize their dream of home ownership by focusing on revitalizing vacant properties. The aim is to make the renovation and use of existing properties more attractive, particularly in rural areas. Through this project, the state government wants to send a signal to the Thuringian housing market in order to stimulate the construction industry and at the same time promote sustainable development.
With the “Eigenheim Plus” program, potential property buyers can apply for low-interest loans from their bank. These reduced interest rates are financed by the Thüringer Aufbaubank (TAB), which is providing a total of 1.2 million euros for the program. Individual projects are funded with a maximum of 150,000 euros, which makes the acquisition or modernization of owner-occupied residential property much easier. A possible loan volume of up to 30 million euros is promised.
