Trump threatens BRICS with tariffs: will the dollar be sold now?
What thunderous weather! Before he's even moved into the Oval Office, President-elect Donald Trump is threatening the BRICS countries with a shocking 100% tariffs on goods entering the US if they pursue their de-dollarization goal. “This sounds like the beginning of a full-scale trade war,” experts whisper! While Trump takes off with his winning spirit, the rest of the world remains with both feet on the ground. The BRICS countries are ready to reduce their dependence on the dollar, despite Trump's threatening gestures.
Ash Narain Roy, director of the Institute of Social Sciences, believes Trump's saber-rattling will come to nothing. “The emerging economies are catching up tremendously, even if Trump is trying to act as a bouncer,” explained Roy. The superstate alliance of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa remains ironclad and will move even faster towards de-dollarization if Trump takes the reins. “It’s not that easy to fool these outfits,” Roy drew comparisons with reality.
But be careful, Mr. President! Their tariff threats could prove to be a boomerang and only harm the US itself by forcing consumers to pay. If the worst comes to the worst, exporting countries will simply pass on the price increase. And, while Trump has “views on everything and everyone,” few seem to take him seriously. The BRICS are determined: not to back down, but full steam ahead on their de-dollarized course. The complete story is available at watcher.guru.
