Uwe Fietzek: Farewell to the county - district administrator is not running!
Uwe Fietzek, non-party district administrator of the Grafschaft Bentheim district, will not run again in the local elections in September 2026. This decision was announced late on Thursday afternoon in the Grafschafter district council. Fietzek, who has been in office since November 1, 2019, would like to end his term of office as scheduled by October 31, 2026. At 64, he would like to have more time for his family and grandchildren.
Fietzek emphasizes that he does not want to leave office prematurely. The early announcement of his decision serves to give politicians enough time to find a successor. When making the announcement, he listed the high demands of the office, which entail considerable time, physical and psychological stress. For him, the office of district administrator is the highlight of his career and an exciting job in local politics.
Active time until the end of office
Although he no longer wants to run, Fietzek plans to actively use the remaining 16 months of his office. He would like to critically examine the district's financial situation and has several projects on his agenda. These include, among other things, the establishment of a new room for the disaster control team, the renovation of the large meeting room as well as the initiatives for the vocational training campus, a model care project and the establishment of a municipal housing company.
Fietzek has been working in the Grafschafter district administration since August 1, 1987 and previously completed training and studies at the city administration in Lingen. His decision not to run for a second term was a consideration he made carefully. The clarity that he creates with his announcement will give the Grafschafter politicians the opportunity to find suitable successors in a timely manner.
Fietzek's decision not to run again honors the significance and challenges that the office of district administrator brings with it. The political landscape in the Grafschaft Bentheim district is therefore facing an important phase of handover and realignment.
Economy Current reports that the district administrator wants to actively shape the remaining time until the end of his term in office and has a number of projects on the agenda. Additional information can be found at Ems-Vechte wave.
