Agriculture in Saxony-Anhalt will be characterized by significant changes in 2024. Sugar beet cultivation, on the other hand, will be reduced by 9% to 49,600 hectares. One reason for this is the previous year's good harvests, which resulted in lower demand for beets, combined with changing eating habits and increasing demand for low-sugar products.
Particularly noteworthy is the increase in the area cultivated for winter wheat. This will grow to 288,700 hectares in 2024, which corresponds to an increase of 12.4% compared to the previous year. With a share of 58.8%, winter wheat is now the dominant grain in Saxony-Anhalt. The area for winter rapeseed also increased slightly by 0.6% to 122,900 hectares. The cultivation of winter barley, on the other hand, deteriorated by 5.7% to 96,300 hectares.
