Economy in crisis: Kolm calls for immediate measures for Austria!

Austria is currently experiencing a tense economic situation, which is highlighted again by a new publication by WIFO (Austrian Institute for Economic Research) regarding economic data. According to current data, there is a slight improvement in industrial activity of 0.1 percent. Nevertheless, FPÖ economics spokeswoman Barbara Kolm is dissatisfied with the development and expresses considerable concerns about the economic policy situation in Austria. In particular, she criticizes the ongoing recession, which is now in its third year, and the stagnating economy, which is already in its fifth year. According to Kolm, this situation was significantly exacerbated by the black-green de-industrialization policy.

The above-average economic uncertainty identified by WIFO relates to many aspects. In this context, Kolm makes it clear that the federal government cannot present any recognizable strategies to overcome the structural weakness in growth. This is further complicated by an ongoing EU deficit procedure arising from the consolidation budget. As a result, there are also efforts by the EU to temporarily shift bureaucratic obstacles, as proposed in the EU omnibus proposal. However, Kolm criticizes, this is just a temporal postponement of the problems without offering any real solutions.

Criticism of EU regulations

A central point of Kolm's argument is the uncertainty in Austria as a business location, which subsequently leads to an outflow of capital. She is also critical of the EU's sustainability regulations, which she considers to be inapplicable. She considers the legislative process in the EU to have gone poorly, which could have serious consequences for the Austrian economy. It formulates clear demands for the abolition of anti-competitive regulations and calls for an economic liberation move through a dynamic government constellation.

An important aspect of the current discussion is the EU Commission's announcement that it will stop the implementation of the supply chain directive for one year. Kolm is skeptical and criticizes the fact that the omnibus proposal does not reveal any defusing of the content.

Need for reforms and tax relief

In view of these challenges, Kolm emphasizes the need for structural reforms and tax relief in order to counteract anti-growth climate policy and secure Austria's competitiveness. The economic situation remains tense and it is urgent that politicians proactively address these issues.
