Economic recovery: Rietberg celebrates new high school and campus!

On May 21, 2025, the “Tour de Rietberg” took place in Rietberg, organized by Mayor Andreas Sunder. Around 300 guests took part in the event, which served to promote low-threshold contact with citizens. During the tour, various aspects of the new high school on Torfweg, which cost the city around 38 million euros, were presented. This includes not only the rooms such as classrooms and specialist rooms, but also the flexible use of the cafeteria, which can easily be converted into an auditorium.

The tour included visits in four groups, where participants were also able to get to know the roof terraces of the high school. Around 1,000 students currently attend the Nepomucenum Rietberg high school. To round off the day, guests were offered freshly grilled game sausages and drinks. Sunder took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of business in the city's development.

Neuland campus in Rietberg

As part of the economic developments in Rietberg, the Neuland Campus is being built, an innovation center that is intended to attract both small and large companies from the Ostwestfalen-Lippe (OWL) region. The groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place six months ago. The Neuland campus is scheduled to open next year and will create 90 permanent and up to 380 flexible jobs. An event hall and 30 creative and conference rooms are also planned.

Insight Day

On May 10, 2025, the Nepomucenum Rietberg high school offered another opportunity to explore the new school building as part of the “Day of Insights”. Within five hours, around 1,500 guests visited the facility and were given an insight into the new premises. The first day of school after the Easter holidays, which took place on April 28, 2025, marked the completion of four years of intensive construction work.

The high school is also internationally involved: as part of the Erasmus+ project “Water – a precious resource”, international guests were welcomed at the beginning of April, including six students from the Spanish partner school IES Santo Domingo. In addition, high school students took part in other Erasmus+ projects, including “Experience Democracy” in Cuneo, Italy.

The active school life is also reflected in the “Chillmal” group, which designed mandalas to invite people to the “Day of Insights”, as well as in the educational exhibition, which has been running in the VEZ since the beginning of March, with clay figures that were created in Ms. Riepe’s WP 9 course. These activities demonstrate the high school's dynamic approach and transition to a new chapter in its history.
