Economics Minister Robert Habeck makes a mistake with a calculation error in a TV show

Economics Minister Robert Habeck's appearance on “Markus Lanz” contained an embarrassing calculation error. He falsely claimed that a car that increases in price from 15,000 euros to 20,000 euros becomes a quarter more expensive. However, this actually corresponds to an increase of a third, i.e. around 33 percent. Despite this mistake, Habeck presented a confident performance overall. When it came to the topic of nuclear power shutdown, the minister seemed to be better prepared than the other panelists.

Habeck's line of defense regarding the closure of the nuclear power plant emphasized that it was not internal papers but the discussions with the nuclear power plant operators that were crucial for the decision. The operators spoke out against continued operation because there was a lack of fuel rods. When asked whether he would have let the nuclear power plants run longer if the operators had wanted him to, Habeck replied that this would only have been the case temporarily.

Furthermore, Habeck argued that the shutdown of the nuclear power plants was necessary because the uranium for the power plants was imported from Russia. With regard to the energy crisis, the Economics Minister emphasized that Germany had successfully mastered it. However, no one pointed out that the largest uranium exporters to the EU are Kazakhstan and Canada, not Russia.

A controversial moment arose when Habeck claimed that the Greens were uniformly on the right side of Hamas terror. This statement caused a lack of understanding, especially among a guest in the discussion group. Nevertheless, Habeck reiterated his position, while other guests took a more nuanced view.
