Future impulses for Regensburg: economic development on record!

The Regensburg region is a dynamic economic center with a clear focus on future projects and quality of life. This became clear during a meeting of the Economic Committee on July 10, 2025 led by Economic Officer Maximilian Köckritz. He presented the different areas of activity of the Regional Development and Economy Department, which deals with economic development as well as aspects such as tourism, sport and digitalization.

Factors such as business management, the networking of schools and businesses and the promotion of start-ups are in the foreground. Particularly noteworthy is the support in recruiting workers, which is provided through job fairs and targeted placement projects, for example in cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. The department takes an individual approach to meet the specific needs of companies.

Sustainable development and digitalization

Regensburg is pursuing a comprehensive strategy to increase the quality of life and attractiveness of the location. This includes regular company visits, providing information about funding and initiating digitalization events. Among other things, a webinar series entitled “Digital Coffee Break” was introduced to help small and medium-sized companies find their way in the digital world.

Regional development is also based on the EU funding program LEADER, which has supported over 90 projects with a total of around 6 million euros since 2002. The program not only promotes the economic stability of the region, but also the strengthening of regional value chains, as can be seen particularly in the eco-model region Stadt.Land.Regensburg. This is reflected in the large number of small eco-projects supported.

Tourism as an economic factor

The tourism sector plays a crucial role in the economic development of the Regensburg district. According to a 2015 study by the DWIF, tourism generated over 45 million euros in total income and created around 1,640 jobs. The region offers tourist highlights such as the Burgensteig, the Danube Panorama Trail and the Jurasteig, which are to be further enhanced through quality management and digitalization.

In order to master the challenges of the time, the close involvement of the commercial sector in the design of all funds and funding programs is necessary. In addition, demographic and structural change requires continuous adjustment of political measures. European structural policy should promote structural reforms to ensure sustainable economic growth throughout the region, while attractive locations are created and maintained.

The future-oriented measures and the clear focus on sustainable regional development show that the Regensburg district is not only a place for economic growth, but also wants to remain a livable home for its citizens. The initiative to support various economic sectors through targeted funding and programs will certainly have a decisive impact on the region in the coming years. The district is well on its way to establishing itself as a future-oriented and attractive region.
