Alexander King from the Berlin Left is moving to the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance. A dispute over his mandate in the House of Representatives is emerging.

The Berlin left-wing MP Alexander King has announced that he is leaving the Left Party. He is moving to the newly founded association Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW). King made the announcement on Friday.

King only moved to the Berlin House of Representatives in June 2023 as Sandra Brunner's successor. Before that, he had already been a member of parliament from December 2021 to March 2023. He has long been considered a confidante of Sahra Wagenknecht.

King justified his departure in an interview with the “Berliner Zeitung” by criticizing the Left party leadership. This shows “no reflection whatsoever on the causes of the weak election results” and only looks for blame elsewhere. “This inability to self-criticize is dangerous,” King said. He considers the BSW to be “a necessary addition in order to really reach everyone who is dissatisfied with the current politics”.
