Berlin and Brandenburg: Economy expects recovery after crisis!

Companies in Berlin and Brandenburg are optimistic about the economic year 2025. According to Sven Weickert, managing director of the Berlin-Brandenburg business associations (UVB), an upswing is expected over the course of the year. This prospect is supported, among other things, by a special fund for infrastructure, which is intended to trigger a special economic boom. In addition, an investment booster that allows 30 percent depreciation on equipment investments is intended to stimulate demand in the industry. Weickert commented on this on RBB Inforadio and underlined the changed mood within the company.

The Federal Government is urged to improve communication between politics and business in order to achieve the goal of international competitiveness. This requires measures such as investment support, competitive energy costs and a reduction in bureaucracy. “The current energy costs in Germany are twice as high as in the USA, China or France,” says Weickert. The managing director also described the creation of a positive mood in the economy, which is promoted through dialogue and cooperation.

Demands on bureaucracy and legislation

In order to further strengthen the competitiveness of the German economy, Weickert presented a proposal for a so-called triple check for new laws. This check includes a practical check on the necessity of the law, a digital check on digital feasibility and a burden check on the costs for the economy. Weickert emphasizes that a significant reduction in burdens is urgently needed in order to promote growth.

On Wednesday morning, the 2025 spring report will be presented, which will shed light on Germany's economic situation. The EU Commission predicts zero growth in Germany by 2025. Despite this gloomy forecast, Weickert shows great optimism and hopes that after discussions with the federal government a cooperation will emerge that recognizes the seriousness of the situation and can bring about a positive turnaround.

Investments and growth prospects

With regard to the expected investments, Weickert is confident that the resolution of uncertainties, particularly those caused by the customs dispute with the USA, can lead to subsequent investments. He is convinced that both Berlin and Brandenburg as well as the entire Federal Republic will benefit from economic growth. “We must both remain internationally competitive and enable companies to invest in a positive future,” Weickert concluded his remarks.

Overall, the mood in the economy is perceived to be improving, which strengthens expectations of an imminent upswing. The coming months will be crucial for the implementation of the measures mentioned in order to get the economy on track and stabilize it sustainably.
