EU Commission President von der Leyen is calling for more speed in the EU

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasizes the need to strengthen the competitiveness of European companies. It underlines the importance of staying ahead and securing performance by Europe acting faster, more digitally and cleaner. A key theme is less bureaucracy, and von der Leyen shows progress in clearing out EU regulations. She calls for a simplification of reporting requirements for companies and emphasizes the steps that are still pending in this direction.

In connection with the upcoming European elections in June, von der Leyen is positioned as the top candidate of the European People's Party and is aiming for another term as Commission President. Employer President Rainer Dulger is calling for a move away from the overly complex regulations of recent years in order to make it easier for entrepreneurs to do business in Europe. Competitiveness must again be a top priority in the European area in order to become faster, more digital and simpler.

Europe is emphasized as an economic opportunity and support, with the right decisions at EU level being crucial for growth. The balance between competitiveness and sustainability is highlighted as the key for the future European economy. Attention is drawn to the shortage of skilled workers and the need for improved access to capital for companies, as well as the importance of falling energy prices and progress in digitalization.

Von der Leyen explains that measures to reduce bureaucracy have already been taken, such as the introduction of a regulatory control council. She points to a bureaucracy reduction package for agriculture and emphasizes that despite the progress so far, there is still a lot of work to be done to further reduce bureaucracy. The coming years should be characterized by sustainability, improved access to capital for companies, lower energy prices and advanced digitalization.
