FDP leader Lindner without mercy: attacks against von der Leyen, Söder and Paus

The FDP chairman Christian Lindner gave a 72-minute speech to the delegates of the FDP federal party conference in Berlin-Kreuzberg on Saturday afternoon, without a manuscript and a tie. Lindner emphasized several times the “economic turnaround”, a 12-point program from the FDP leadership. He praised the modest successes of the traffic light coalition as part of this economic turnaround and warned against naysayers and believers.

An embarrassing episode occurred at an International Monetary Fund meeting in Washington when Germany was portrayed on a slide on Friedrichstrasse as a symbol of economic weakness. Lindner also criticized the Berlin city government, especially Family Minister Lisa Paus, because of her basic child welfare proposals.

Lindner attacked EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and expressed concern about the geopolitical situation and the efficiency of economic policy. He also criticized other parties such as the SPD, CDU and CSU and emphasized the importance of economic strength for geopolitics.

The speech received strong applause from delegates, particularly for Lindner's emphasis on economic transition as a law promoting democracy. Lindner concluded his speech by stating that the FDP is the only force for freedom in Germany.
