FDP policy paper causes controversy at traffic lights

The FDP has turned the two larger traffic light partners against itself with a policy paper on social and economic policy. According to an exclusive report by BILD am SONNTAG, the FDP plans, among other things, to cut benefits for those who refuse to work by 30 percent, freeze social benefits, abolish pensions at 63 (for younger people at 65) and cancel funding for wind power and solar systems. These proposals have led to a conflict within the traffic light coalition, which had just reached an agreement on the citizen's benefit reform.

SPD leader Lars Klingbeil sharply criticized the FDP and described the policy paper as a mistake and an attack on the real top performers in the country. He emphasized that hard-working craftsmen, nurses and educators should not suffer from the FDP's concepts. Klingbeil emphasized that the SPD has adopted its own economic program that differs significantly from the FDP's line.

The Union is watching the wrangling within the traffic light coalition with interest. Markus Söder, Prime Minister of Bavaria and CSU leader, described the current controversies as a kind of “divorce certificate” for the traffic lights. CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann called on the FDP to either leave the coalition or implement necessary measures.

The SPD is trying to remain calm, and Dirk Wiese, deputy leader of the SPD parliamentary group, emphasizes that it is the coalition agreement that counts and not individual papers for party conferences. He appeals to the FDP to find good compromises in the coalition and calls for calm and composure with regard to the upcoming FDP party conference.
