Green party leader calls for Germany investment fund
The German economy is facing challenges that require new impulses, as Green Party parliamentary group leader Dröge emphasizes. The infrastructure in particular urgently needs investment. In view of the weakening economy, Dröge calls on the countries to invest together in infrastructure projects. This is to be achieved by setting up a Germany investment fund for the federal, state and local governments.
The leading economic research institutes have given a pessimistic forecast for German economic growth. Dröge criticizes the fact that important framework conditions for the business location have been neglected for years. She sees the strengthening of skilled workers and the reduction of bureaucratic hurdles as key factors for revitalizing medium-sized businesses. She sees an example of successful action in the USA with the Inflation Reduction Act and an extensive subsidy program.
The dilapidated transport infrastructure in Germany also requires high investments in the coming years to maintain and expand railways, roads and bridges. Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing is proposing the creation of an “infrastructure fund” that would pool resources for various transport routes and also mobilize private capital. The Greens have concerns about this type of financing and prefer to set up a joint Germany investment fund.
