Investment ramp-up in 2025: Minister urges precaution
Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Transport and Digital Infrastructure, is committed to a sustainable solution to expand the transport infrastructure. He emphasizes the need to increase infrastructure investment in Germany to meet the needs of freight and passenger transport. The ministry is aiming to ramp up investment by 2025 in order to sustainably strengthen the infrastructure.
In addition, Wissing foresees a further increase in investment requirements from 2026 and urges early precautions. To address these challenges, he suggests mobilizing private capital. An “infrastructure fund” advocated by Wissing could pool financial resources for rail, roads and waterways over several years.
On March 25, a new sector advisory board began its work in connection with Deutsche Bahn's newly founded infrastructure division InfraGO. This advisory board is intended to help develop solutions to the challenges in the area of transport infrastructure and to develop future-oriented concepts. Wissing emphasizes the importance of a sustainable and long-term infrastructure policy in order to make mobility in Germany efficient and reliable.
