Crisis summit in Saxony-Anhalt: Solutions for insolvent suppliers!
In Saxony-Anhalt, Economics Minister Sven Schulze (CDU) invites automotive suppliers to an important summit. This announcement was made during a state parliament session in Magdeburg. The meeting, which will take place on May 22nd in Halberstadt, aims to develop solutions for the challenging economic situation of automotive suppliers. Schulze describes the current situation as “challenging” because gross value added in manufacturing and industry has fallen by 3.6 percent, which is due, among other things, to high energy prices.
To support affected industries, the state government is planning its own programs, which will be implemented in addition to the existing measures at the federal level. This engagement follows a similar summit held in late 2024 with chemical industry representatives. The pressure on automotive suppliers in Saxony-Anhalt is considerable, especially after several companies had to file for bankruptcy.
Bankruptcies affect the region
The Bohai Trimet company in Harzgerode, which employs 580 people, is particularly affected. Its bankruptcy sent shockwaves throughout the region. Bohai Trimet is considered the largest employer in the area, and the city of Harzgerode has a strong interest in maintaining the location. The mayor of Harzgerode, Marcus Weise (CDU), emphasized that the city is ready to do everything it can to support the insolvency proceedings. He has already held talks with the Prime Minister, the Economics Minister and the district administrator.
The switch to e-mobility and the high energy costs are cited by Damuszis, a company representative, as factors for the difficult situation. Nevertheless, he sees potential for the Harzgerode location and relies on the specialist knowledge of the employees. The region is heavily dependent on Bohai Trimet, as many social institutions, including kindergartens and schools, as well as clubs, rely on the economic stability of the industrial park.
Further bankruptcies in the automotive supply sector
In addition to the bankruptcy of Bohai Trimet, other companies are also affected: Boryszew in Gardelegen with 380 employees and the Schlote Group with plants in Wernigerode and Harzgerode, which employs a total of 280 people. These developments illustrate the serious condition of automotive suppliers in Saxony-Anhalt, who are under great economic pressure and urgently need support. The state government is called upon to find effective solutions and support the affected companies.
The challenges facing automotive suppliers require close cooperation between the state government and the companies affected. The upcoming summit could be the first step in the right direction to develop sustainable solutions for the industry.
