The planned financial increase of the NBank development bank by the red-green state government is taking concrete shape. State Secretary for Economic Affairs Frank Doods emphasized that it was no longer a question of “if”, but rather only “how”. The political decisions to increase NBank's equity capital are currently being prepared by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance and are therefore in the final stages of the process.
The aim of this measure is to significantly increase NBank's equity capital in order to be able to offer more funding in the future. Although the exact amount of the increase was not disclosed, implementation is expected to take another year. According to the coalition agreement between the SPD and the Greens, the NBank is to be converted into an investment bank by increasing its equity capital.
In 2023, NBank approved around 27,000 grants with a total volume of 1.42 billion euros. Compared to the previous year, in which the funding volume was 3.5 billion euros (a large part of which was attributable to Corona aid), the funding volume remains at a high level. Demand for loans in housing promotion rose particularly significantly, with commitments totaling 454 million euros, an increase of around 100 million euros compared to the previous year. This money will flow into almost 1,900 rental apartments and homes.
