Söder in China: Meeting planned with Prime Minister Li Qiang

The political highlight of Bavarian Prime Minister Söder's multi-day trip to China is a planned meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang. This trip marks the first time a German prime minister has visited China since the end of the pandemic. Before he arrived in Beijing, Söder visited Sichuan Province, which is now Bavaria's third partner region in China. In Beijing he had the opportunity to visit the Forbidden City and now plans to visit the Great Wall of China on Wednesday.

China is Bavaria's largest and most important trading partner worldwide, with a trade volume of over 53 billion euros in 2023. Exports to China amounted to more than 17 billion euros, while imports from China amounted to almost 36 billion euros. These figures illustrate the close economic ties between Bavaria and China, which Söder wants to use to push for fair competitive conditions.

The economic relations between Bavaria and China are of great importance for both parties, which is why Söder's visit is seen as an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation and promote fair trade practices. The Prime Minister's trip is therefore seen as an important step to deepen the economic partnership between Bavaria and China and at the same time push for fair competitive conditions.
