SPD Economic Forum celebrates 10 years: reducing bureaucracy as a central challenge!

Ines Zenke, co-founder of the SPD Economic Forum, currently comments on the challenges and goals of the forum, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. Since its founding in 2015, the business forum has gained over 550 members, including well-known DAX companies, family-run companies and start-ups from various industries. A central concern of members is reducing bureaucracy, as a Civey survey from May 2025 shows.

The survey showed that the burden of bureaucracy is perceived as the biggest problem, ahead of issues such as the shortage of skilled workers and rising energy prices. In this context, Zenke emphasizes that long approval procedures and numerous reporting requirements are viewed as a hindrance. In particular, the approval processes for wind power projects have improved in the recent past and the duration has been shortened. The abolition of the EEG levy in 2023 has also eliminated the need for annual exemption applications.

Reducing bureaucracy as a central concern

Zenke is convinced that a positive mindset is essential when reviewing approval processes. She criticizes the attitude that people often first look for reasons why something cannot be implemented instead of finding solutions. “We can only hope that practice will follow this approach,” she adds.

Zenke is optimistic about the federal government's plans to invest 500 billion euros in infrastructure over the next twelve years. She believes in the progress that is being made in reducing bureaucracy and is hoping for the introduction of an industrial electricity price. She also sees growing economic expertise within the SPD and is in favor of a renewal of the party.

The discussion about reducing bureaucracy plays a central role within the SPD economic forum. Interested readers can find further information on this topic on the relevant forum pages.
