Trump Loses Millennials: Survey Shows Dramatic Decline in Support!
Support for Donald Trump among Millennials, the largest group of voters in the U.S., has seen a dramatic decline. According to a YouGov/Economist poll, approval of Trump fell from 40% in June 2025 to just 33% in August 2025. The net approval rating deteriorated from -13 to -23 during this period, marking Trump's worst result this year. Critical voices from the millennial generation, born between 1981 and 1996, particularly highlight his economic policies.
The 53% rejection rate in June rose to 56% in August. This decline comes as job growth slowed in July, raising fears among voters about rising costs of living. Trump's tariffs and his handling of inflation contribute to this negative perception. Despite these reports, there is an increase in approval of Trump's immigration policies from 33% to 41%, while opposition has also fallen.
Millennials in a political context
However, in the context of the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, it remains unclear whether Millennials will overwhelmingly support Republicans or Democrats. This back and forth reflects, in part, the complex political landscape in which Millennials operate. As the Pew Research Center notes, Millennials are the most diverse generation in U.S. history. This generation's critical experiences, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the 2008 financial crisis, have had a profound impact on their political views.
Interestingly, the oldest Millennials will have turned 38 in 2023, further influencing their perspectives and decisions. This generation, similar to the previous Generation
Outlook for Generation Z
With the emergence of Generation Z, who were born in 1997, a new focus of interest is becoming apparent. This generation has grown up in an era heavily influenced by technology and social media. The Pew Research Center plans to track Generation Z over time and compare their views with those of previous generations. Whether this generation's political attitudes and engagement will be greatly influenced by the current political environment, including Trump's presidency, remains to be seen.
While opinions can vary significantly across generations, this research reflects the diversity and complexity of attitudes that transcend demographic lines. It will be interesting to see how Millennials' political leanings evolve heading into future elections.
