Union counters FDP: Own application for economic turnaround planned

The FDP recently presented its plan for the economy, which, however, pleased the Union more than the traffic light partners. The CDU and CSU plan to intervene in the debate with their own motion. This application should contain at least five of the twelve points from the FDP paper, including tougher sanctions for citizens' money, the abolition of the solidarity surcharge and tax advantages for overtime.

The situation raises the question of whether there could be a break in the coalition. The Union is demanding rapid relief for companies and consumers from the traffic light government in order to initiate a real “economic turnaround”. However, it remains unclear whether the Union is prepared to vote for its proposal, which has many similarities with the FDP proposal and would therefore mean a break with the coalition partners.

It is unlikely that the FDP will agree to the Union proposal, as FDP leader Christian Lindner has expressed clear criticism of the previous economic policy under the CDU leadership. He emphasized that the CDU shared responsibility for the country's current weak growth and accused the Union of blocking reforms. Lindner emphasized that he was not interested in coalition games, but rather in providing impetus in economically difficult times.
