Volker Wissing switches to business: New challenges at Christ Capital

Dr. Volker Wissing, former federal minister, is moving from politics to business. On August 28, 2025, it was announced that Wissing would take over the position of chairman of a new advisory board of Christ Capital GmbH. This advisory body has the task of supporting the group of companies on strategic issues and bringing external expertise into strategic development. The group also includes the consulting firm “Joschka Fischer & Company” run by former Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer. Wissing is the second former federal minister to announce new professional plans this week, since Robert Habeck announced his departure from politics on Monday.

Wissing, who was Secretary General of the FDP from 2020 to 2022, held the office of Federal Transport Minister in the traffic light coalition. In November 2022, he resigned from the FDP after the coalition collapsed, but remained as the only liberal in Chancellor Olaf Scholz's cabinet. He also temporarily took over the Federal Ministry of Justice until a new black-red federal government was formed in May 2023.

The new advisory board and its goals

The advisory board, which Wissing will lead, aims to advise the company owner and management on long-term company orientations and investment decisions. An important focus is on identifying growth areas, designing future clusters and expanding partnerships. According to information from Christ Capital, the advisory board has no organizational responsibility and acts purely as an advisory body. This circumstance opens up the possibility of further well-known advisory board members being appointed, and the advisory board can be expanded to include up to seven members.

However, Wissing's assumption of the advisory board chairmanship is subject to the Federal Government's decision. According to the ministerial law, this can prohibit such activity in whole or in part for up to 18 months after leaving office if public interests are impaired.

Background to Christ Capital GmbH

Christ Capital GmbH was founded by Harald Christ and combines advisory and investments. According to current reports, the company has total assets of around 140 million euros and employs around 80 people. The group's consulting areas include technology, investor relations, M&A, transformation, defense and energy. Harald Christ himself has an eventful political past; Originally a member of the SPD, he later switched to the FDP, from which he left at the end of 2022.

With the appointment of Wissing as chairman of the advisory board, Christ Capital GmbH is entering a new phase. The advisory board is intended to support the strategic development of the company and use its expertise to contribute to the creation of sustainable structures. It remains to be seen how the political and business landscape will develop in the coming months.
