According to a report by www.rbb24.de, a coalition agreement is emerging in Berlin between the CDU and SPD, which will shape the city's economic policy. The parties agree on many points, but there are some fundamental differences of opinion.

According to Economics Senator Stephan Schwarz, most companies in the capital are doing well despite the ongoing crisis. Berlin's economy shows no signs of a wave of bankruptcies and the outlook for the year is optimistic. Nevertheless, according to the Association of Business Associations (UVB), there is a difficult situation due to increased prices, delivery difficulties and geopolitical uncertainties.

Investment in Berlin's start-up sector fell by half last year, and the situation in retail is also causing concern.

The coalition negotiations also include the state minimum wage, the Berlin trade fair and the municipal utilities. The SPD calls for the state minimum wage to be maintained when awarding public contracts, while the CDU insists on the possibility of private investors participating in the trade fair.

The role of municipal utilities and the promotion of the creative industries are also assessed differently by both parties, although there is already agreement on many points. The economy is to be converted to be climate-neutral and investments are being made in the health sector and the IT industry.

In order to help retailers, empty shops should be quickly repurposed, and restaurants should be waived the special use fee for public road land until the end of 2024. The negotiators from both parties will submit their proposals on March 31, which will then be recorded in the coalition agreement.

The future regulations and agreements could have a significant impact on Berlin's economy, particularly with regard to investments, funding and the role of municipal utilities in the energy transition. It is important to continue to monitor the negotiations and carefully analyze their impact on the market and the financial sector.
