Economics Minister Habeck receives the green light for half a billion euros in funding for a battery factory

According to a report by www.n-tv.de, despite budget problems, the federal government has released a good half a billion euros for the location of Northvolt's battery factory in Heide in the Dithmarschen district. This investment serves to trigger a large private investment that brings added value and jobs in a future industry. Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck emphasizes the importance of this investment and is pleased that an exemption could be obtained despite the current budget freeze.

In total, the funding amounts to around 700 million euros, of which around 564 million euros come from the federal government and around 136 million euros from the state of Schleswig-Holstein. This funding is distributed over several annual tranches. However, the funding decision is still subject to state aid approval from the European Commission.

The Swedish company Northvolt plans to produce battery cells for electric cars in Heide from 2026. This 4.5 billion euro investment is expected to create 3,000 jobs. Despite the enormous investment, the company has already invested around 100 million euros of its own funds in the construction project.
