Germany as a business location in danger: companies avoid investments
The employers' association Gesamtmetall and the trade union IG Metall have jointly called on the federal government to take measures to protect the industrial location in Germany. The decisions of many companies, both domestic and foreign, to invest against Germany are seen as threatening signs of ongoing deindustrialization. In particular, it emphasizes the need to ensure competitive energy costs and create more attractive conditions for investments.
In addition to these demands, an accelerated expansion of infrastructure in both urban and rural areas is required. Faster planning and approval procedures are also on the agenda, as is a long-term raw materials strategy. Given the ongoing shortage of skilled workers, an increased focus on education is seen as essential.
The joint communication emphasized that Germany was at serious risk as an industrial location. Compared to other countries that are characterized by more competitive conditions, there is a risk of serious deindustrialization, social division and an increase in political radicalization and protests. The government is therefore calling for decisive countermeasures to counteract these negative developments.
