Economic turnaround in focus: traffic light parties face a decision
The twelve-point program presented by the FDP Presidium to “accelerate the economic transition” has provoked strong reactions from the Social Democratic coalition partners. The Green Economics Minister has so far kept quiet about what he thinks of the Liberals' plans. Meanwhile, at the presentation of the federal government's spring projection, Robert Habeck once again outlined his therapeutic measures to stimulate the German economy.
Habeck describes the current economic challenges as being structural in nature. There is a shortage of skilled workers, laws are too complex and investments are inadequate, all of which hinder the potential for future growth. The solutions to these problems are already known and discuss the parties' individual ways of dealing with the crisis.
It is clear that the people of Germany are demanding coordinated measures and unity from the federal government. Support is needed not only in describing problems, but also in the concrete implementation of therapeutic measures. A compromise that can be supported by all three parties is sought, based on the coalition agreement that the traffic light government agreed to earlier.
Achieving this consensus requires pragmatism, courage and trust. The focus is on investments, especially private ones, which also require public money. Consensus on reforming the debt brake within the parties is necessary in order to advance the structural economic transition. It is emphasized that an agreement is urgently needed and is in the interests of business and society.
