Departure for new freedom: Skyhub PAD connects Paderborn and Munich!

A group of entrepreneurs is taking a courageous step in response to Lufthansa's suspension of all flights between Paderborn and Munich. Christoph Plass, a regional entrepreneur, together with 35 other founders, founded the airline Skyhub PAD in order to maintain flight operations between these two cities again. How Time reported, Lufthansa's flight connection became a significant nuisance for the affected entrepreneurs who depend on this connection.

Skyhub PAD is a nationwide unique project that represents a virtual airline and rents a complete package from the Danish airline DAT. The initiative aims to ensure the necessary air traffic in this important economic location. The new provider plans to initially become profitable when it starts operations, despite higher ticket prices than Lufthansa, as soon as a customer base of around 91,000 passengers per year has been established.

Background and announcement

Lufthansa's decision to suspend flights until the end of May results in a number of economic disadvantages for the region. To date, Lufthansa has offered connections from Paderborn/Lippstadt Airport to Munich up to three times a day. This change led to Christoph Plass being informed about the cancellation of flights by Carsten Linnemann, the CDU general secretary, during his stay in Japan. Immediately after returning from Japan, the entrepreneurs began planning their own airline.

Skyhub PAD GmbH & Co. KG is operated from Büren in Germany and the management is in the hands of Klaus Marx. The airline DAT will be responsible for operational air traffic. The company is registered in the commercial register of the Paderborn District Court, although the specific registration numbers are currently being processed. Only the reference to the sales tax ID is currently being added.

Investments and future outlook

The shareholders invested a seven-figure amount to found Skyhub PAD. It is noteworthy that despite significant financial contributions, these investors do not receive discounts on airline ticket prices. This underlines the commitment of the company founders to bring not only a profitable but also a fairly structured offer to the market.

Entrepreneur Christoph Plass and his team are confident that Skyhub PAD can provide the much-needed connection between Paderborn and Munich. As part of their initiative, they aim to better serve regional travel needs while mitigating the economic impact of the canceled flights. Further information about Skyhub PAD GmbH & Co. KG can be found on their official website at skyhub-pad.de to find.
