Attention drivers: This is how you can save hundreds of euros on car insurance!
The car insurance change period has begun, encouraging many drivers to review their policies and change if necessary. ADAC Autoversicherung gives tips on how to reduce insurance costs and points out significant savings potential. Drivers can save several hundred euros per year, depending on the options and discounts chosen.
An important aspect that the ADAC emphasizes is the payment methods. Annual payments prove to be cheaper compared to monthly or quarterly payments. The choice of deductible also plays a crucial role: a higher deductible can significantly reduce the premiums, for example by 150 euros for partial insurance and 300 euros for fully comprehensive insurance.
Special discounts and telematics tariffs
In addition, drivers receive cheaper premiums if they use repairs at the insurer's partner workshops. Premiums can be up to 20% cheaper, provided the provider offers a pick-up and delivery service as well as replacement vehicles. Telematics tariffs, which reward careful driving, are also an interesting option. Savings of up to 30% are possible here, like Financial tip reported.
With a telematics tariff, drivers have to disclose their driving data. For this purpose, data such as speed, acceleration and braking behavior are recorded and analyzed. Depending on the insurance company, driving behavior results in an individual score, which directly influences the premium. Young drivers in particular can benefit from this option, but they should also keep an eye on the risks, as risky driving behavior can lead to higher premiums.
The collected data is pseudonymized and forwarded to a separate analysis company. This proceeds in accordance with a data protection code from the General Association of the German Insurance Industry (GDV), which promises a high level of protection for personal data. Nevertheless, it is necessary to have a basic technical understanding in order to be able to correctly use the required smartphone app to evaluate the telematics data.
Data protection concerns and fairness of tariffing
Still, there are privacy concerns. The app used to evaluate the data can put a lot of strain on the smartphone's battery and use up data volume. In addition, mobile devices often store a movement profile, which can pose a risk if unauthorized access by third parties occurs. In addition, experts, including the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations, are calling for a discussion about the ethical limits of tariff setting by insurance companies.
Consumers who decide on a telematics tariff should also find out about any additional costs, such as fees for GPS black boxes, the use of the app and the general conditions in the event of a negative driving behavior rating. Current savings options should be carefully considered before making a decision.
All in all, it can be said that drivers should be well informed when changing vehicle insurance. Through various offers and discounts, tailor-made, cheaper insurance can be found that takes both financial advantages and data protection into account.
