The commissioning of the new toilet facility on the market square in Neuwied has been significantly delayed, as the city administration announced on June 10, 2025. This setback is due to a calculation error in the foundation, which already casts serious doubt on the original opening date of March 2025. Mayor Jan Einig informed the city council about this and explained that the city administration is preparing to report the case to the responsible insurance company.
The estimated follow-up costs for the city amount to up to 50,000 euros, which is a cause for concern for the local party, especially the SPD parliamentary group. It not only calls for quick solutions, but also more transparency in dealing with the situation. A binding plan for cost coverage by insurance is still pending, as is information on the new schedule for commissioning.

So far, no structural measures have been carried out on site; only a list of services for adapting the foundation is available. The SPD emphasizes how important barrier-free toilet facilities are for older people, families and people with disabilities. The tenant rejected the payment obligation because he did not notice the defect. He argued that it was the landlord's responsibility to check the water pipes regularly. However, the Hanau District Court decided that the tenant was obliged to pay because he had noticed the defect and failed to report it. This decision was confirmed by the Hanau Regional Court on appeal. It was recognized that the tenant must regularly check the rental property for defects, even if he is away frequently.
