Air traffic controllers and pilots: Fly safely with loss-of-license insurance!
In today's episode of the Kingmaker Podcast, Christian Heß, Managing Director of Stöver, Herrmann and Partner GmbH, has his say. He specializes in loss-of-license insurance for aviation professions, an important protection for professionals such as air traffic controllers, pilots and other relevant players in aviation. Heß, who joined the company in 2017 and gave up his self-employment, talks about his experiences and the challenges in the insurance industry.
The impetus for developing a tailor-made tariff came from his partner, who is an air traffic controller. In 2018, he developed a new tariff to stimulate the static market in this area. In doing so, he responded to the specific needs and challenges that air traffic controllers and similar professions can experience when they have health problems.
The Importance of Loss of License Insurance
Air traffic controllers, apron controllers, flight data processors and flight advisors have considerable responsibility in air traffic. However, physical and psychological impairments can affect their ability to work, which underlines the need for occupational disability insurance (BU). Loss-of-license insurance (LoL insurance), which was designed specifically for these professional groups, is particularly relevant. It includes an anti-loss clause that comes into effect if the license is revoked due to health problems.
While normal BU insurance only applies if the insured person is no longer able to practice their profession for more than 50% of the time, LoL insurance already covers loss of license. Air traffic controllers are required to provide regular medical evidence and their license is revoked in the event of health restrictions such as hearing loss or vision problems. In such cases, normal BU insurance would generally not offer any benefits, as the possibility of practicing a profession still theoretically exists.
Digitalization and sustainability in the insurance industry
Heß not only recognized the specific need for LoL insurance, but also drove technical advances in the company. Digitalization has reduced paper consumption by an impressive 80%. Digital signatures and paper-based processes are part of the modern working environment, without losing sight of the Hanseatic, trustworthy and family corporate culture.
In the podcast episode, Heß also recommends several books, including those by René Borbonus, which provide valuable insights into contract negotiations and cold calling. The critical topics shed light on the challenges faced not only by students but also by experienced professionals in the insurance industry.
Christian Heß is not only shaping the future of his company, but also that of the insurance markets for aviation professions, which require solid protection through loss-of-license insurance. The offer ensures that those working in aviation are financially secure even in times of crisis.
