New vehicle for the WürmtalTisch: More help for those in need!

On August 15, 2025, Dr. Jutta Reichert, head of the WürmtalTisch core team, announced good news about supporting those in need in the Würmtal. The number of directly supported customers has increased to 142, a direct result of increased demand since the war in Ukraine. Not only Ukrainians are particularly affected, but also Germans, Afghans and Syrians who need help.

Since 2006, the WürmtalTisch food supply has offered the opportunity to pick up food once a week, provided the necessary documents are presented. The initiative is not only aimed at supporting the weaker in society, but also promotes sustainability by saving and distributing food that would otherwise be thrown away.

Thanks to sponsors and new vehicle takeover

Mayor Peter Köstler expressed his thanks to all those involved and sponsors who are helping to support the initiative. Particularly noteworthy is the purchase of a new Fiat, which was completely financed by advertising through bus sponsorship from Sichelschmidt. The municipality covers the costs of insurance, maintenance and fueling of the vehicle.

Around 30 companies from Gräfelfing and the surrounding area contributed to the financing, which underlines the high commitment of the local economy to social support. The handover of the vehicle took place at the WürmtalTisch weekly distribution location, where the food is distributed every Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.

Increasing demands on food distribution

Thomas Schaumberger, responsible for the vehicles, emphasized the increasing demands and the urgent need for the new car. The rush for food distribution is often very large, which is why a rotating group system was introduced to ensure fair distribution. In addition to the new vehicle, six or seven private cars are currently being used to pick up groceries.

Customers are divided into 13 groups to ensure equitable food distribution. This organization makes it possible to meet the high demand while providing those in need with the help they so desperately need.
