NRW starts e-bike leasing: secure your advantages now!
This year, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) will launch a new bicycle leasing program for e-bikes aimed at a large target group. Around 500,000 civil servants, employees and university employees in North Rhine-Westphalia are the focus of the program, which is planned for 2026. The call for proposals is currently underway to attract interested companies who would like to take part in the initiative. The application deadline ends on August 22nd. Excluded from this program are pensioners and employees on parental leave or those who will retire in the next three years Ruhr24 reported.
A key feature of the program is the possibility of salary conversion, which reduces employees' taxable income. High earners in particular can benefit from significant savings in social security contributions. For example, an employee who wants an e-bike for 4,000 euros and has a gross salary of 4,500 euros could pay a net monthly rate of 65 euros. This strategy enables savings of up to 40% compared to purchasing the e-bike directly.
Extensive services and conditions
The leasing program includes numerous benefits for participants. This includes fully comprehensive insurance with no deductible, annual inspections and wear repairs of up to 500 euros. The program also offers a Europe-wide mobility guarantee that also covers hotel costs in the event of a breakdown. The e-bikes themselves are offered in a price range of 750 to 7,000 euros, with at least 500 bicycle dealers in North Rhine-Westphalia taking part in the program.
The leasing period is 36 months. After this period has expired, employees have the option of taking over the bike, with the residual value usually being 15% of the purchase price, or returning it. Another advantage is that the e-bikes can also be used privately and there is no minimum use required for the commute The wheelhouse supplemented.
Leasing as a financing option
The concept of e-bike leasing is similar to classic car leasing. Leasing is usually carried out by the employer, who lets the employee use the e-bike. This enables employees to lease e-bikes inexpensively and also use them privately. It is not possible to terminate the contract before the end of the leasing period, and the old e-bike can either be handed in or bought from the lessor after the leasing period.
With these new initiatives, North Rhine-Westphalia is focusing on sustainable mobility and the promotion of cycling, which not only relieves the burden on the environment but could also improve the health of its citizens. The upcoming leasing program could be an attractive opportunity, especially for employees in North Rhine-Westphalia, to travel on two wheels in an environmentally friendly way.
